Subsurface irrigation is a type of drip irrigation in which the drainage pipe (lateral) and the water outlet (usually dripper) are located below the soil surface.<\/span><\/p>\n

The most important advantage of this irrigation method is the reduction of water consumption – due to the reduction of evaporation and the infiltration of water only in the root zone of the plant.<\/span><\/p>\n

Subsurface irrigation is one of the new irrigation methods that has been used in recent years in many developed countries.<\/span> The most common type is “drip subsurface irrigation”.<\/span><\/p>\n

Other methods such as irrigation cylinders or the use of perforated pipes (PVC or polyethylene pipes) are other methods of subsurface irrigation that are common in Iran.<\/span><\/p>\n

Although these methods are more efficient than the flood method, they are not very advanced and engineered and are not particularly effective in large areas.<\/span><\/p>\n
